Class Topics
I am really enjoying what we are talking about in class. The topics we have discussed, and the videos we have watched have opened my eyes to new things. Growing up, I never had trouble reading or writing. I always caught on to new topics fairly easily. I never understood why it was so hard for Johnny to read out loud in class when I was in 2nd grade. After I got older, of course I learned that everyone learned on different levels, but I never really understood why. But after the past couple weeks I have learned a lot and how I could help someone who may be struggling. Thank you for making me aware. :)

You are very blessed to have never had trouble with reading or writing. It is difficult for someone who has never had these difficulties to completely know what life altering struggles that take place in one’s life. I on the other hand, have unfortunately always struggled with reading and writing. Growing up I never received any help, I had to figure it out on my own. I still struggle but I manage and I have learned various strategies to help me cope. Because of my struggles, I know the life altering changes that take place in a child’s life that has these difficulties and I want to be an example to them that if they work hard they can become anything they desire. I work with struggling readers every chance I get. This is my passion.
ReplyDeleteI have also struggled with reading and writing. Growing up I was always moving due to my fathers old job. When I had moved from one school to the other they were at different stages with reading. I struggled so much that my parents decided to hold me back. It has always been a struggle and sometimes still today I have problems. It's not easy as a child having problems with reading. Because of my experience I hope that I can be of help to someone that is struggling.
ReplyDeleteI do not like to see people struggle, so learning all of this will hopefully help me to better understand children with disabilities so that I can better help them.
ReplyDeleteBack in the day, I used to be a really slow reader and would always be self-conscious about having to read infront of the whole class, I would fiqure out which paragraph would be mine and read it a couple times before it was my turn so when I did read it I was on the same speed as the other students. Doing this would make me miss out on what everyone else was reading and ended up with bad grades. It was horrible and soooo scaary. I am over it now but I had to practice and everything on my own time, although I am still not the best reader.
ReplyDeleteAlso back in Elementary school I had to go to speech therapy class because I could not say my "R" sound correctly and would say any word with a "R" in it wrong. It took me 2 years of speech therapy to get over it but still to this day it slips out and I sound funny but I just laugh it off and re-say the word slowly :] haha
ReplyDeleteAshley, I would do the exact same thing. Always trying to figure out which paragraph would be mine. Not really because I was a slow reader, but because I hated reading or speaking infront of the class.
