Correlation
I am currently in a COM 100 class and we were talking about nonverbals and how you can say so much without saying anything. It is crazy to me how much we communicate without saying a word. We were talking about communication struggles between men and women, and how women communicate 70 % of what they want to say through nonverbal action. Men use verbal communication for about 70% of what they want to say. For example, when a women says," Im fine." a man is supposed to be able to interpret her nonverbal actions to find out if she really is. However, a man will usually not try to interpret her actions because when he says he is fine, he means it. I just find it funny sometimes how it works out this way. Anyone else agree?

"I'm just fine!" :-)
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh when I read it. What you said is so true and I've done this plentyyyy of times. My fiance has finally figured out that sometimes when I say I'm fine, I'm really not and he knows now that it takes more than listening to what I say to understand how I really feel. It makes a big difference in communicating when the people involved actually take the time to try to understand one another and not just listen to the words being said!
ReplyDeleteI agree, but I was raised in a house with two women so I learned really early that women never say what they mean. Lol
ReplyDeleteMrs. White,
Being as I can't read your face or actions right now, I'm going to guess that the exclamation means your not...
TRUE! I know as a girl I've pulled this stuff before. First of all, I kind of feel bad for the guys, haha. But, this also makes you realize the importance of your nonverbal language and how it's delivered.
ReplyDeletethis is so true.. kind of off topic with the whole im fine thing... but today I was rolling my eyes unintentionally while talking to someone and they stopped talking to ask if i was upset because of the non verbal communcaiton i was using ....
ReplyDeleteSoooo, Macey. Why were you rolling your eyes? :-)
