This is such a cool website! In my SED 104 class we were encouraged to visit this site for extra credit, but trust me you may end up playing around on it for awhile. There are short exercises where you can experience what it is like to have a learning disability. It was really interesting to go into the section on the website where you can see what it is like for students whom have trouble paying attention in class.
Check it out!

I tried a couple of the activities. It was VERY hard to pay attention. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is really really neat! I was pretty surprised at how hard it was for me to pay attention as well! This gave me a different outlook on students with learning disabilities and helepd me experience first hand (or as close as possible I guess) what they go through daily.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I tried paying "attention" and had the hardest time. It was an eye opening activity for me and I couldn't imagine having to face those challenges everyday!
ReplyDeleteThis website really opened up my mind! We've learned how to teach students who face these types of challenges daily but it is really eye opening to actually experience what they go through. I tried one of the attention activities and it was very hard for me to pay attention. I also tried a reading activity and it honestly gave me a headache trying to decode the mixed up letters intended to show us how some students view reading. Every one who is interested in teaching should view this website!
ReplyDeleteThat was so insane. I was really getting frustrated on a couple of the activities because there were other noises or the words kept fading and I just remember thinking I wish I could control it. Which then made me step back and think...wow... there are kids who are in school and they are dealing with this on a daily basis, and it's not just a 2 minute exercise, it's their life. This was very eye opening.
ReplyDeleteI saw this post and thought it sounded interesting. When I tried the activity I couldnt even finish the first sentence. I sat there and waited for the story to pop up again and never did. I thought it was interesting how thats what some children go through and see how difficult it could be for the child to even learn.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am also in SED 104 and got on this website to play/experiment. It is so nice to be able to get just even a glimpse of how it feels to have a learning disability. Because it truly is one of those things that you won't ever fully understand unless you have been through it yourself.
ReplyDeleteWhen i took SED 104 i looked at this site and it was a mind opener. you always see those tv shows like tyra who goes out as a different race or different body type and how it changed their views on what people have to live with. hopefully one day we will have something like virtual reality to help others understand disabilities.
ReplyDeletethis is really neat. I wish i would have known about this when i first started in this major. It really opens up your eyes to see what they go through everyday.
