Mrs. White!
How bout a SIMCOM class for the ITP student that never hears English by a professor anymore! You did in the last class and I think it'd be refreshing!

  1. What exactly is a SIMCOM class?

It sounds pretty interesting from your description.

  3. What do you mean you "never hear English by a professor anymore?" What are your professors speaking to you every day, girl? What am I speaking every week? Pig Latin?!

SIMCOM is simultaneous communication when I sign and speak at the same time. This is what I did when I taught children who were Deaf because I had children who wore cochlear implants. So, I provided both auditory as well as visual input.

ITP is the Interpreter Training Program.

I'll do some signing during the week we study deafness. How's that, Miss Reed? ;)

  5. Mrs. White thank you for explaining what SIMCOM is. I was wondering is there a class or a good book, or a video that I could purchase that would teach someone like me who only knows the alphabet in sign language. I would love to be able to learn simple basics so; I can share with my students.

  6. There are tons and tons of websites online that you can go to. Just google "ASL Dictionary" (ASL is American Sign Language) On these websites you can look up words and common short phrases.

For me, the best way to learn ASL has been through the ASL program here at EKU. I've taken 101, and I'm in 102 right now. But, if that isn't an option for you, websites and books I'm sure would be a good learning experience as well :)
